Truppach is a small village at the gateway to Franconian Switzerland, a district of Mistelgau in the Bayreuth district. The village lies in the Truppach Valley, framed by the 516-metre-high Wachstein to the west, the Lehenberg to the south and the Marnstein to the north-west.
📜 History
Truppach is one of the oldest settlements in the Bayreuth area. As early as 1059, the von Truppach family was mentioned in a document as ‘de Trubaha’. In 1523, the Swabian League blew up the castle, which at that time belonged to the von Aufseß family. With the help of the Bishop of Bamberg, it was rebuilt shortly afterwards.
🏰 Truppach Castle
The 17th- and 18th-century castle is a reminder of the old fortress; it is a rectangular, two-storey building with four tower-like bay windows at the corners. Today it is privately owned and inhabited.
🥾 Wachstein & Surroundings
From the 516-metre-high Wachstein, the view stretches across the entire Truppach Valley, a popular hiking destination. In the immediate vicinity lie the Mengersdorf estate and the Obernsee thermal baths with their 44 °C thermal waters.
🎪 Zeltkerwa
Truppach is best known for its Zeltkerwa, organised every year in early September by the rural youth association. And, of course, for the alpacas at the Trupaka Farm.
