Ebermannstadt is situated in the heart of the Wiesent Valley and is often referred to as the ‘heart of Franconian Switzerland’ – a good starting point for exploring the region. The River Wiesent splits to the east at the old waterwheel, thus encircling the small old town.
📜 History
The town was first mentioned in a document in 981; in 1323, Emperor Louis the Bavarian granted it town privileges.
👀 Sights
- Waterwheel – the town’s landmark, which still quietly draws water from the Wiesent to this day.
- Market Square – a lively square lined with chestnut trees, featuring half-timbered houses and the Marienbrunnen fountain.
- Marien Chapel – featuring a fortified tower and late Baroque décor, including works by the Ebermannstadt painter Friedrich Theiler.
