Gaillenreuth Castle

🗺 Overview

Gaillenreuth Castle stands high above the Wiesent Valley, between Ebermannstadt and Gößweinstein. Today, it is primarily a tourist attraction with a restaurant, beer garden and function rooms.

📜 History

The castle probably dates back to the 11th century; in 1122, it was purchased by Otto von Mistelbach, Bishop of Bamberg, for the bishopric. In the mid-14th century, it passed to the Lords of Egloffstein. During the Peasants’ War, the castle was burnt down in 1525 and rebuilt by Konz von Egloffstein. During the Thirty Years’ War, it was destroyed by Croatian troops in 1632.

🍺 A place to stop for refreshments

Today, the castle invites visitors to take a break with its restaurant and lovely beer garden. For weddings, conferences and corporate events, there are spacious halls and an events barn, as well as accommodation and riding facilities. Art and cultural events take place regularly throughout the year.
