Veilbronn Nature Centre

High above the Wiesent Valley, the Veilbronn Nature Friends’ House is perched on a hill near Heiligenstadt – offering one of the most beautiful panoramic views in Franconian Switzerland. This historic lodge, run by the Nature Friends Association, is more than just a place to stop for refreshments: it’s a hiking destination, a country inn and overnight accommodation all in one.

Views & Location

The viewpoint at the Naturfreunde House is one of the most rewarding in the region. The view sweeps across the wooded hills and rocks of the Wiesent Valley all the way to the striking dolomite cliffs of Franconian Switzerland. The view is particularly impressive on clear days – and in autumn, when the deciduous forests change colour.

Tree-top adventure park

Right next to the house is a treetop adventure course that delights young and old alike. With a range of difficulty levels, visitors can swing their way through the treetops – ideal for families with children or for anyone looking for a bit of adventure. Depending on the season, it may be worth booking in advance.

Tavern & Beer Garden

The rustic pub invites you to enjoy a Franconian snack. The menu features regional classics – Schäuferla, bratwurst, snack platters – accompanied by a Franconian beer on tap. In summer, the beer garden beckons with benches under old trees and views across the valley. The perfect way to round off a hike through the surrounding countryside.

Rest of the year:

Opening times are heavily dependent on the weather – in fine weather we may open outside regular hours, whilst in bad weather opening hours may be shortened. It’s best to check the website from 9 am on the day of your visit.

The Naturfreundehaus offers simple but cosy accommodation – perfect for walkers planning multi-day tours through Franconian Switzerland. The peaceful location, away from the main roads, ensures a restful night’s sleep.
